OAKALYPTUS
Cedar wood and wood-fired wild clay
h. 110 cm
The work tells a story of land use and fire. It carries the spirit of a disturbed ecosystem that still has the power to revive if given the opportunity.
The sculpture was created in collaboration with Max Ekman during a one-month residency at Quinta das Relvas in Portugal. The ceramic head was fired in a wood kiln built on site during the residency. The kiln was shaped from local sand, clay, and fragments of broken roof tiles.
