Itämeren Väki

Itämeren väki is Mermaid Slaughterhouse collective’s performative community art project that invites feminine power to protect the Baltic Sea. In Finnish tradition, the female genitalia has been regarded as a gateway to the otherworld and believed to contain great spiritual power, known as väki. Through this power, women have been able to protect things through a ritual practice known as harakoiminen.
